Adagio, owned by IEAH Stables and others and trained by Richard Dutrow Jr., most recently won his seventh race from his last 10 starts when he proved best by a length in a $61,500 claiming purse at Monmouth Park on Friday, August 6. Adagio lived up to favored billing ($5.00) under jockey Jose Valdivia Jr, and put in a sustained run from near the rear early after he broke seventh from post position 2. He bested Waltzing With Blue after 1 1/16 miles in 1:40.57 over a firm turf course, with Marquet Cat, who had set the fractions (22.34, 46.06, 1:10.45, 1:34.57) another length behind in third. He earned a 90 Beyer Speed Figure. The Equibase chart for the race read, “Adagio raced off the pace inside, moved up on the turn, rallied four wide into the stretch and kicked clear.” He earned $33,000 in purses and pushed his lifetime record to 10-1-2 ($312,435) from 20 starts. Adagio is a 6-year-old horse by Grand Lodge – Lalindi, by Cadeaux Genereux. Four Shore, Famous Patriot, and Greenspirit were scratched from the race for ages 3 and up. Nine horses started.
