Court Vision, owned by IEAH Stables and others and trained by Richard Dutrow Jr., most recently finished sixth, beaten 4 ½ lengths, in the Grade 1, $400,000 Manhattan Handicap at Belmont Park on Saturday, June 5. Jockey Robby Albarado and Court Vision, 5.90-1 in the betting, broke from post position 6 and raced in 10th for more than three quarters of a mile, some seven lengths off the pace. He saved ground throughout, hit some traffic at times in a race that featured a wild stretch run, and did gain to the stretch call but couldn’t impact late. Winchester, ninth much of the way and 10th after one mile, put in a powerful late charge to be along in time on the outside for a half-length win over the favored (1.05-1) Gio Ponti. Expansion finished a length further back in third. Winchester, a 5-year-old horse by Theatrical – Rum Charger, by Spectrum, paid $44.80 to win. Jet Propulsion set the early fractions (23.95, 48.94, 1:12.98, 1:36.46), and gave way to finish last. Take the Points, the leader at the stretch call, finished fourth. Winchester completed the 1 ¼-mile distance in 1:59.46 over a firm turf course and received a 102 Beyer Speed Figure; Court Vision earned a 94. The Equibase chart for the race read, “Court Vision was outrun for six furlongs along the inside, steadied on the rail at the quarter pole, gained inside in midstretch and flattened out.” He earned $1,334 in purses. Eleven horses, ages 3 and up, faced the starter. Court Vision could be considered for a start in the Grade 2, $150,000 Fourstardave Handicap at Saratoga Race Course on Sunday, August 1. The race will be run at 1 1/16 miles on turf. LAST UPDATED: June 22, 2010 |
